The staff of the 10 billion Tree Tsunami Programme have refused to work in protest over nonpayment of salary.
The workers have been without salary for three months as the funds have been halted for four months. The government has extended the deadline of the project for another two years.
The forest department has been finding it difficult to accomplish the task on time. sources said. The insiders blamed the mess on the provincial government that did not reply to a request for Rs25 million for clearing dues.
The provincial government was delaying funds deliberately, sources said adding that the project was scheduled to be completed in 2023.
