As the government is under fire over the sedition case filed against the PML-N leadership including AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, the party spokesperson, Marriyum Aurangzeb, on Tuesday called for registration of a case against Prime Minister Prime Imran Khan for misusing his authority and the state apparatus under Article 62 and 63, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Addressing a press conference in Islamabad, Marriyum made this demand after Bashir Memon, the former FIA director general, in an interview revealed that the prime minister had pressed him for registering cases, including containing the charges of terrorism and treason, against the Sharif family members and other PML-N leaders like Khawaja Asif.

It is important to note that Memon was suddenly removed from his post just months before his retirement and replaced by Wajid Zia, the person who headed the JIT formed to probe the Panama Papers case against former premier Nawaz Sharif.

Ever since his removal, there have been rumours that Memon was ousted for not going tough against the PML-N leadership and the latest interview has just confirmed those speculations.

Marriyum also called for the immediate release of PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz, saying the NAB-Niazi nexus had been fully exposed after the revelations made by Memon.

It wasn’t an ordinary interview as Memon showed how Imran was using the state apparatus to target the rivals, Marriyum stressed.

About sedition case, she said Badar Rashid, who got the FIR registered had been made a missing person, had been made a missing person.

Moreover, Marriyum said the Pakistan Penal Code clearly stipulated that sedition and treason cases could not be registered without the federal or provincial governments approval, as she rejected that the claim that the PTI had nothing to do with the episode.

The PML-N spokesperson made these remarks as there is no information about Badar’s whereabouts despite the attempts made by different media houses to get his comments on the issue.

Also on Tuesday, the AJK Legislative Assembly members, both from the treasury and opposition benches, joined those expressing their anger over nominating Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider in the sedition case.

In this connection, a resolution was tabled in House by a cabinet member – Ahmed Raza Qadri – on Tuesday, which said that the FIR had created resentment among those who stood for the Constitution and democracy, especially the millions of Kashmiris living in Azad Kashmir, Occupied Kashmir and abroad.

“This meeting of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly strongly condemns the sedition and treason case registered against the independent government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, the central leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-N, two former prime ministers, ex-federal ministers, retired senior generals with a police station in Lahore.”

“This frivolous case has made Pakistan a laughing stock at the international level,” the resolution read and added that the move had damaged Pakistan’s principled stance.”

It said, “This case is a cause of damaging Pakistan’s interest which is a product of short-sighted element’s minds.”
