A petition was filed in the Supreme Court (SC) against a decision of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) under which a plea against showing the population of Balochistan less in the new census had been disposed of, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The petition, filed by Hassan Kamran, son of Kamran Murtaza Advocate, demanded that the SC annul the August 29 decision of the BHC.

“In the new census, seven million people have been removed from the population of Balochistan. At the final stage of the census, the population of Balochistan was 21.7 million,” the petition stated.

“[But] the Bureau of Statistics said that the population of Balochistan was 14.9 million. Contradictory statements issued from the official accounts of the Bureau of Statistics,” it added.

“The BHC gave a verdict contrary to the facts. It disposed of our petition on the basis of a petition of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) pending in the Supreme Court against the Council of Common Interests. The SCBA’s plea is completely different from ours,” it stated.

The federal government, Bureau of Statistics, NADRA, Council of Common Interests and others were made respondents in the petition.
