Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday chaired a National Security Committee huddle in Islamabad which vowed not to come under any pressure as far as the affairs relating to the national interest of Pakistan are concerned, ruling out any compromise on the country’s security, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Sources said the NSC meeting made a string of decisions with consensus, resolving that no conspiracy to create internal chaos and divide the nation will be allowed to succeed.
The sources divulged that the civil and military leadership stressed on everyone to play their respective role for national security and country’s stability.
The NSC meeting participants also expressed their satisfaction on operations being carried out against miscreants in various parts of the country.
A declaration regarding the NSC meeting is being prepared and will be released soon.
The 41st meeting of National Security Committee (NSC) was held under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at PM House in Islamabad. The senior civil and military leadership attended the meeting.
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and other federal ministers were present in the meeting.
Senior military officers including chief of the army staff, chairman joint chiefs of staff committee, air and naval chiefs, director general military operations (DGMO), defence secretary, interior secretary and NSC secretary were also present in the meeting.
The chief ministers of four provinces also attended the meeting on special invitation.
The national and internal security situation of the country was reviewed in the meeting.
The law and order situation in the country was also discussed, and opinions of the provinces regarding general elections in the country on the same day were also sought.
The secretaries of the ministries concerned gave briefings on the security and provision of funds for the elections. The NSC also reviewed the recent developments in the country.
COAS calls on PM Shehbaz
Army Chief General Asim Munir has met Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif hours before the start of the most important meeting of National Security Committee (NSC), reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
As per the official sources, both the prime minister and the army chief held a discussion on the situation of the country at PM House in Islamabad on Friday.
Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General (DG) Nadeem Anjum was also present in the meeting.
