An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Thursday granted to the police seven-day physical remand of chairman of Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) Manzoor Ahmad Pashteen, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Earlier, the police produced Pashteen in the court of Judge Abual Hasnat Zulqarnain following the registration of an FIR against him at Tarnol police station of Islamabad.
Police requested for physical remand of the suspect, which the latter’s lawyer opposed, arguing that there were no grounds for that. “It is my client’s right to hold rallies in Balochistan and elsewhere,” he said, adding, “As a matter of fact, Pashteen’s car was fired at in the province. He had been whisked away by the authorities from there and was produced in the court today after a gap of three days.”
PTM chief Manzoor Pashteen was arrested by the police in Chaman, Balochistan three days ago after armed men from his vehicle allegedly opened fire at a police vehicle as per the version given by Deputy Commissioner Raja Athar Abbas.
However, the PTM leaders, accused the law enforcement officers of initiating the gunfire.
The incident occurred as Pashteen was attempting to travel to Turbat from Chaman, where he was scheduled to address participants of a sit-in.
