Inadequate measures taken by the district administration has resulted in over 4, 000 people getting infected by Leishmaniasis in Dadu (Sindh) so far as 200 to 300 people are falling prey to the disease in the city and its outskirts every day, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Neither the administration has been able to get the affected areas sprayed nor have the health department teams been sent there as yet. There is even a shortage of vaccines at hospitals prescribed for the treatment of people suffering from the ailment.

Leishmaniasis is a parasitic disease that is found in parts of the tropics, subtropics, and southern Europe.

It is classified as a neglected tropical disease (NTD). Leishmaniasis is caused by infection with Leishmania parasites, which are spread by the bite of phlebotomine sand flies.
