In an incident of intolerance, driver and conductor of a red bus in Karachi on Tuesday subjected a Dawood University professor to torture, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Professor Dr. Atif Jameel, who is serving at the university’s post-graduate department as director, later released a video statement in which he said that he had an altercation with the conductor over changing 10 rupees note, which infuriated both him and the driver who then together beat him up.
He said that he had boarded a bus from near his Clifton residence in the morning for the university. “I handed the conductor five notes of 10 rupees,” he said, adding, “The driver returned one of these notes to me and asked me to give another one in its place, saying there was a tape wrapped around it.”
But, the professor went on to say, he told the conductor he only had the note of Rs1, 000 with him. “But the conductor told me to either give Rs10 note or else I will be kicked out of the bus,” Dr. Atif told media, adding, “This resulted in an exchange of hot words between me and the conductor, who started thrashing me. The driver also joined in.”
The professor appealed to Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to provide him justice by taking strict action against both of them.
