Chief Minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi Tuesday presided over a special meeting in connection with the election arrangements in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
He directed the concerned authorities to ensure the implementation of the code of conduct of the Election Commission and to take immediate action on any complaint.
He also instructed to complete the installation of 32,000 CCTV cameras at the polling stations by 12:00 tonight and to activate the control rooms for effective monitoring. He said that the Punjab government had saved one billion rupees by buying CCTV cameras, for which the entire team deserved congratulations.
The Chief Minister further said that internet and mobile service would not be stopped at any place on Election Day and that security arrangements and manning should be as per SOPs.
He also ordered to start the cleaning of the cities from the morning of February 9 and to remove all banners and posters from all areas.
He said that the concerned secretaries should monitor the process of removing banners and posters and to submit a report after clearing all areas on the evening of February 9.
He also asked the district administrative officers to perform their duties in the field for a transparent election and to contact the Chief Secretary, IG and Provincial Election Commissioner as needed.
The Chief Minister said that peaceful and free elections were a national responsibility and that everyone had to fulfill this responsibility as a team. He said that he was confident that the people of Punjab would vote for development, progress and prosperity.
Punjab Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Provincial Election Commissioner, Additional Chief Secretary, Interior Secretary, Secretaries Local Government, Transport, Finance, CCPO, MD Punjab Safe Cities Authority, Commissioner Lahore, Deputy Commissioner and related officials attended the meeting.
Divisional Commissioners, RPOs, DPOs and District Returning Officers from across Punjab participated in the meeting through video link.
