Online banking fraud: Police officer’s wife loses Rs1 million

In a unique incident of cybercrime in Lahore, a cybercrime gang successfully withdrew Rs1 million from the bank account of a serving deputy inspector general (DIG) of the Punjab Police. 

Details show that the gang got a fake death certificate of the DIG’s wife from Rahim Yar Khan. On the basis of this death certificate, the gang got a SIM card issued in the name of a woman, Neha. After buying the SIM card, the gang acquired all banking information of the DIG’s wife. Later, the gang transferred Rs1 million from her account to their account through an online banking app. 

Using the bank account information, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), arrested one of the cyber gang members in time. However, police are still looking for gang leader Saif and his
