Election Commission Secretary Omer Hameed has gone on leave, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

According to the spokesperson for the Election Commission of Pakistan, Omer Hameed went on leave due to his illness. He said that the secretary was doing a good job.

The spokesperson said that two other special secretaries are working in his absence.

Earlier, the ECP secretary met Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja and offered to resign citing health issues.

Sources informed that the ECP secretary told the CEC that he was not well so he could not perform his duties.

However, he did not forward his written resignation to the ECP Secretariat.

The secretary verbally informed about his decision to the chief election commissioner during a meeting.

The CEC advised him to take complete rest till his recovery.

However, the CEC is yet to accept Secretary Omar Hameed’s resignation.

It bears mentioning here that ECP Secretary Omar Hameed’s two-year tenure was ended in July last but the ECP chief extended his tenure by one year.

It is to be noted that the secretary has resigned at a time when the general elections are just a month away and the commission is busy in the scrutiny of the nomination papers of the candidates.
