Punjab University has released 250 security personnel in three days, raising concerns about the institution's safety, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
This decision comes on the heels of the university advertising the recruitment of 250 teachers, highlighting the administration's shift in priorities amid ongoing financial struggles.
Over the past three days, the number of security staff at Punjab University has been drastically reduced from 400 to just 150.
Many of the dismissed employees had been serving for nine years, all on a contractual basis.
The administration chose not to renew their contracts, citing mismanagement and financial difficulties as the primary reasons behind the layoffs, according to the sources.
The remaining 150 security personnel now face increased workloads, extending their shifts from the standard 8 hours to 12 hours daily to compensate for the reduced workforce.
The decision has caused upset among the security staff, who are already dealing with the challenges of keeping the campus safe.
