Zohaib Qureshi, who had been an absconder in Dua Mangi kidnapping case for the last four months, was finally arrested in Kandhkot (Sindh) on Tuesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Police officials told media that Zohaib, who had fled from Balochistan after stealing a car, was intercepted by cops at a picket on the main highway.
On seeing police, they added, the suspect opened fire. Police retaliated which made him surrender and was eventually arrested, they explained.
According to the police, two of his accomplices were still on the run and that raids were being carried out to arrest them.
Zohaib had fled from police custody at Karachi’s Tariq Road on January 28 this year while he was being shifted back to the jail from the court.
Dua had been kidnapped from Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA) on November 30, 2019.
The suspects also shot her friend who was with her at the crime scene.
In October 2021, Mangi had identified three suspects, including Zohaib, as her kidnappers during a hearing at an Anti-Terrorism Court.
She had said that she could identify only Qureshi, Ali, and Raja as they were the ones who had bundled her into a car and shot Fatah for trying to save her.
