Another stage actress shot dead

It seems there is no end to the violence against women involved in showbiz, as another stage actress was killed late Friday.

The latest killing happened in Sahiwal where Roop Chaudhry was shot dead by her husband. Meanwhile, he committed suicide after committing the crime.

It is reported that the two had a quarrel soon after Roop performed at a drama.

Police sealed the theatre after the incident and have started an investigation.

Last year in January, stage actress Shahnaz was killed in Lahore, while Kismat Baig was shot dead in November 2016. In December 2015, Sangam Rana was found dead in her bedroom.

Meanwhile, in Multan, Shamim was killed at her house allegedly for honour in October 2017.

But the brunt of rising violence triggered by militancy is faced those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Following are some of these examples.

One of the most famous victims was Ghazala Javed [a playback singer] who, along with her father, was shot dead on June 18, 2012, in Peshawar. She was from Swat.

Similarly in February 2018, popular stage performer Sumbul was shot dead in Mardan by three gunmen after she refused to go with them for a private event.

On the other hand, another stage performer Soniya was killed in Peshawar Nov 2018.

Last year, a Pashto Sana was stabbed to death murdered by her brother in Swat.
