Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz said on Wednesday that food items would be delivered to deserving people under the Ramadan Nigehban Package at their doorstep, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Speaking to the media in Lahore, she said the purpose of the exercise was to make sure that poor people did not have to queue up while they were fasting. “So far we have delivered 89,000 packets of food items to the people,” she informed.
She said that as she and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s had desired, the officials of the Punjab government, police and other concerned departments had done a wonderful job. “Normally governments do not have the data of deserving people so that relief could be provided to them,” Maryam said, adding, “What my team did was they collected the required data from the record of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) and NADRA. And later we identified such people in every district and division.”
The chief minister further said that Shehbaz Sharif had distributed bags of flour among the masses for free last time when he was the prime minister.
The good news, she went on to say, was that in the next few months, the provincial government would find those people who draw less than Rs60, 000 in salary and they would all be made part of the record.
