NDMA issues weather advisory

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an advisory, urging avoiding unnecessary travel in Upper KP, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir and GB areas due to the possibility of landslides due to rain and snowfall.


Tourists are advised not to travel unnecessarily, it said in press releases.


The NDMA said: "A weak westerly wave is prevailing over Balochistan and likely to extend to upper parts. Light to moderate rain is expected in western parts of Balochistan.


"Light to moderate rain, wind/thunderstorm (snowfall over hills) is expected in GB, Kashmir and Pothohar region. Rain-wind / thunderstorms (snowfall over hills) are expected in GB, Kashmir and the Pothohar region. 


It added: “Flash flooding is expected in streams and nullahs of upper catchment areas i.e. Swat, Upper Dir, Upper Kohistan, Chitral, Hunza and Quetta, Chagai and Kech in Balochistan.


“Moderate rainfall is also likely to create urban flooding in Gwadar, Lasbela, Khuzdar, Kalat and Killa Abdullah.”


"From March 8 to 10, cloudy weather is expected in most parts of the country, with rainfall in isolated places in central and southern Punjab while moderate snowfall is expected in northern parts of Pakistan


"From March 10 to 12, rain-wind/thunderstorm is expected in the southern and northern parts of Balochistan – Gwadar, Lasbella, Quetta, Kalat and Khuzdar.
