Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a meeting of the leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday.

The meeting, which lasted for over 2 hours,  pondered over the ongoing political condition and the upcoming general elections.

According to sources, it decided to bring together all the political parties on one platform to decide the election rules.

At the suggestion of party leaders, Nawaz Sharif planned to contact all the political parties, the sources said, adding that Nawaz assigned special tasks to the leaders including Senator Ishaq Dar.

The PML-N will contact the Pakistan People's Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, PML-Q, MQM, Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party, Awami National Party and the nationalist parties in Sindh and Balochistan.

The insiders said the PML-N will also approach the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. During the meetings, the leaders will hold deliberations on the election process and code of conduct.

Following the deliberations, joint proposals to ensure free, fair and transparent elections will be presented to the election commission, the sources said.

Nawaz suggested holding talks with other parties to hold a moot-like all-party conference to avoid hate-mongering and intolerance. Detailed consultation on eliminating intolerance and hateful political atmosphere in society
