The joint opposition has mobilized its forces on the issue of granting extension in the tenure of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman and requisitioned to convene an immediate session of the National Assembly, reported 24 NewsHD TV channel.
The joint opposition submitted a motion requisitioning to convene a meeting of the National Assembly session.
As many as 156 members put their signatures on the requisition motion. The requisition said that an immediate meeting of the National Assembly should be convened to discuss the NAB Ordinance.
According to the requisition, the leader of the opposition is not being consulted by the leader of the house on the appointment of the NAB Chairman.
The appointment of NAB chairman is being delayed unnecessarily due to lack of consultation. Lack of consultation is unconstitutional, it deliberated.
Earlier, federal Law Minister Farogh Naseem and Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said the President of Pakistan would appoint the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman after consultation with the opposition leader in the national assembly.
They informed that under the NAB (Amendment) Ordinance, the matter of appointment of the NAB chairman would go to the parliamentary committee if the government and opposition heads failed to reach a consensus.
The information minister invited the opposition to add more amendments to the NAB Ordinance if they wanted.
The minister also reiterated the government’s stance that PM Imran Khan would not consult opposition leader Shahbaz Sharif.
