The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) probe into foreign funding has exposed that in the election 2013, funding from Wootton Cricket Club was used in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) election campaign, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.

The FIA found that this amount was not disclosed to the Election Commission and was kept confidential, the FIA found.

In addition to $2.1 million from Wootton Cricket Club, more funds were received from the Club for the PTI election campaign.

Additional funds of $1.2 million were transferred from the club's account to Insaaf Trust and Tariq Shafi's account, the findings stated, adding that a  dollar account of Insaaf Trust was opened for one transaction as no further transactions were made from it.

This amount was deposited in the local currency account of Insaaf Trust.

A sum of 2.5 million rupees from Insaaf Trust's local currency account was paid to Media Group M and it admitted in its reply to FIA that it received 41.20 million rupees from PTI for the 2013 election campaign.

Account holders of Insaaf Trust include Tariq Shafi, Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, Hamid Zaman, Manzoor Ahmed Chaudhry, and Mubasher Ahmed.

A few days before the 2013 general elections, on May 7, more than 575, 000 dollars were transferred to the account of Chairman of Insaaf Trust Tariq Shafi from the Woton Cricket Club.
