Karachi braces for new rain spell as PDMA issues monsoon warning

Rain again started to pour in different areas of Karachi on Tuesday morning, sending the disaster management authorities on alert with Met Office forecasting another wet spell from September 9, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Pakistan Met Office said that continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country and monsoon currents are likely to reach upper and central parts of the country including Karachi and Lahore from Tuesday (evening/night) and may persist during the week.

Karachi Weather office said the port city will meet with a new spell of rains from Thursday and Friday. The new spell of rain is coming despite the fact that the authorities in the sprawling city of Karachi had not yet disposed of the rainwater of the previous spell, especially from Jamshed Quarters.

Karachi weather office also predicted rains in Tharparkar, Umarkot, and Badin from September 8.

Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) is also on high alert as Karachi and interior Sindh will likely see intermittent and heavy rains in the new spell which is will enter from Bay of Bengal to Tharparkar and then it will travel to Karachi.

Also, different parts of Karachi received light rain Tuesday morning as the city remained under thick and dark clouds. Light rain was reported in Malir, Gulshan-e-Hadeed, Korangi, Quaidabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal Karachi, and other areas of the city.

The disaster management authority issued a new monsoon alert keeping in view the forecast of the new rain spell.

The district administrations and local body institutions have been directed to be on their toes during the rain spell likely to start on September 8.

The disaster management authority warned that there was a threat of widespread damage due to the strong winds the new rain spell with carry along.
