Defence Minister Khawaja Asif fired a broadside at PTI Chairman Imran Khan saying first he makes an assault on the institutions then says he merely talks about merit. He questions Imran’s sense of meritocracy where he himself ignored merit during his stint as prime minister of the country, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing a presser along with Finance Minister Miftah Ismail on Wednesday, the defence minister said that appointments in Army are made purely on merit. “First he (Imran) launches an attack on an institution, then claims that he talks about merit,” he added.
Asif wondered how could Imran talk about merit when he did not consider it while selecting Usman Buzdar as Punjab chief minister and Mahmood Khan as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa CM. “Did he appoint them on merit,” he posed a question to the former premier.
The defence minister said that the PTI chief in a very calculated manner first talked about the Army Chief the other day and then gave it an entirely new colour yesterday.
“Imran’s own party is dissociating itself from his remarks,” Asif maintained.
He further said that Imran never considered merit during his tenure while citing different examples ranging from Tosha Khan case, land allotment, sugar and flour scandals.
Finance Minister Miftah also chipped in offering Imran to share the stage of the PID and answer the questions regarding Ring Road scandal.
Miftah alleged that Imran had built Rs105 billion worth BRT and went to the Supreme Court to halt investigation into the matter. He said that Farah Gujjar and his wife were trustee of a university.
