An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Islamabad on Wednesday handed PTI President and former prime minister Pervaiz Elahi to police on two-day physical remand, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Judge Sharukh Arjumand pronounced the verdict reserved hours earlier,.
The court reserved the judgement on granting further remand of Pervaiz Elahi to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) for 14 days as was sought by the prosecution.
ATC Judge Abual Hasnat Muhammad Zulqarnain was on leave. Therefore, Pervaiz Elahi’s case was heard by an alternate judge.
The Punjab ex-chief minister was taken to the ATC in an armoured personnel carrier (APC) under tight security.
Ali Bukhari, the lawyer for Pervaiz Elahi, filed a petition seeking permission for Pervaiz Elahi’s family to meet him.
“Pervaiz Elahi’s family and lawyers should be allowed to meet him,” the petition pleaded with the court.
It is to be noted here that Pervaiz Elahi was re-arrested on Tuesday hours after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) issued orders for his release and suspended his detention under 3MPO.
