Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry has been appointed as the new Vice Chancellor of Government College University Lahore (GCU). He is the fifth regular Vice Chancellor and the 35th overall head of the historic educational institution established in 1864.
Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry is a renowned economist with international recognition and expertise in Efficiency & Productivity Analysis and Development Economics. The GCU faculty and staff have warmly welcomed the appointment of an Old Ravian with a distinguished academic background as Vice Chancellor, bringing with him a wealth of experience, scholarly insight, and a deep connection to GCU’s legacy.
He holds a PhD and MS from Norway, an MPhil from Bahauddin Zakariya University (BZU) Multan, and an MA from Government College Lahore—his alma mater to which he now returns as Vice Chancellor.
Prof. Omer Chaudhry is currently serving as Professor of Economics at BZU Multan, where he also headed the Institute of Social & Cultural Studies and served as Controller of Examinations and Registrar. His leadership roles at BZU reflect a deep commitment to academic governance and institutional development.
Old Ravians also welcomed the appointment of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Omer Chaudhry as the new GCU Vice Chancellor.
GCU senior faculty members said Prof. Omer, who also studied at GCU Lahore, is deeply immersed in the much cherished Ravian tradition and therefore best qualified to steer his alma mater to the destination where the classic joins hands with the contemporary norms of excellence in academics, research and, above all, nation building.
