Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) Chairman Muhammad Saleem called President Asif Ali Zardari at the Aiwan-e-Sadr
According to a press release, Saleem presented PEMRA Report 2021-23 to the present. Speaking on the occasion, Asif Ali Zardari stressed the need to discourage the spread of fake news and disinformation by promoting a culture of fact-checking and verifying information.
He said the media should uphold the highest standards of journalism and promote tolerance, unity and ethical values in society.
He said that modern communication technologies had opened up new challenges and the media was required to play a responsible and constructive role in shaping public opinion.
A code of conduct regarding the spread of misinformation and propaganda should be observed, he further stressed.
President Zardari also laid stress on building the capacity of Pemra by adopting modern tools and technologies and building a pool of talented human resources.
He opined that the media should also raise awareness about socio-economic issues, besides promoting a soft image of the country.
The Pemra chairman of briefed the president about the role and performance of the authority in the regulation and development of the media.
