Pakistan to have two more big water reservoirs after 50 years, says Imran

Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Tuesday that five decades after Mangla and Tarbela dams, Pakistan is going to have two more big water reservoirs which are Mohmand and Bhasha dams, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

In a tweet, the Prime Minister shared a video prepared by the Prime Minister Office that explained the key elements and operationalization of the Mohmand and Basha dams with site footages.

Mohmand Dam is 800 MW Concrete Faced Rockfill dam, about five km upstream of Munda HeadWorks on Swat River, in Mohmand Tribal District, KP. The objective of the Mohmand Dam is flood mitigation, irrigated agriculture development of 16,737 acres, hydropower generation and socio-economic uplift of people of the area. The commencement date of Mohmand Dam was September 2019 and its completion date is May 2025.

Diamer Basha Damis located on the Indus River near Chilas (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan), 315 km u/s from Tarbela Dam, and about 40 km downstream of Chilas Town. It is Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) Dam and has 272 meters in height. The installed capacity of Diamir Basha Dam is 4,500 MW 12, with each turbine of 375 MW.
