The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of bail application moved by Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Hamza Shehbaz for an indefinite period, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
A divisional bench headed by Justice Mushir Alam heard the case on Tuesday and sought details of all the cases being tried in the accountability court Lahore against Hamza Shahbaz.
The court has sought details about how many cases are under trial in the Lahore court.
Justice Yahya Afiridi remarked that there should be no discrimination against anyone in the trial court. “The Supreme Court ordered for the daily hearings of the NAB cases. When is the number of Hamza Shehbaz cases in the Lahore court,” the judge inquired.
He also remarked, “It will be a daunting task to get bail on merit so you should not ask for it.”
Justice Mushir Alam remarked that it is better not to seek any observation from the court on merit as it would bring difficulty if the court reviews accounts related to Hamza Shehbaz.
Hamza Shehbaz’s lawyer Amjad Pervez said charges were framed on November 11, 2020 after a reference was filed against Hamza Shehbaz and out of 110 witnesses in the case, statements of three have been recorded so far.
“Your case is of 23 fake accounts, do you want your client to be given a chance to reply,” Justice Advisor Alam inquired from the lawyer Amjad Pervaiz.
“Leave the matter of where the money came from in your account, how much time does NAB need to record witnesses' statements,” Justice Yahya Afridi inquired.
