As many as 12 terrorists belonging to banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed in a joint operation by police and security forces in Lakki Marwat on Wednesday morning, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The police said the slain terrorists were wanted for killing six police officials in an attack in December 2022.
Divulging the details of the joint operation, the police said the terrorists were heading to Tank to carry out an attack, when they were interrupted by the members of the joint team.
Besides using other weaponry the personnel of the joint team also used launchers to target the terrorists.
The police further revealed that they have also recovered arms and ammunition the terrorists' possession and the process to identify the dead terrorists was under way.
All the members of the joint team who took part in the operation remained unhurt.
Attack foiled in DI Khan
The police in Dera Ismail Khan also showed alertness when they repulsed an attack by terrorists on a checkpost in Hathala.
The terrorists targeted the checkpost and in the ensuring gunbattle which lasted for 25 minutes the police did not let them succeed.
The terrorists were beaten back and they fled the scene after members of the Quick Response Force rushed to the checkpost. No casualties were reported in the gunfight.
On Friday last, two terrorists were killed in an exchange of fire in the Esham area of North Waziristan District. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists. It added that the militants were actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces.
Last week, a terrorist was gunned down during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the same district of North Waziristan.
