Prisoners languishing in jails across Punjab have exercised their right to vote for their favorite candidates in elections, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Wednesday.
According to Inspector General (IG) Jails Mian Farooq Nazir, out of more than 65,000 prisoners in 43 jails of Punjab, 1,500 prisoners exercised their right to vote by postal ballot.
In this regard, Election Commission wrote a letter to IG Jails Punjab to cast the votes of the prisoners.
Prisoners in Punjab jails were asked to cast their votes, on which the details of one and a half thousand prisoners were filled, said IG Jails.
Superintendents of jails completed the process of voting under monitoring of cameras and sent the postal ballot papers back, said Mian Farooq Nazir.
He said that the prisoners cast their postal vote and the Election Commission will release its result.
The IG Jails said that the transparent process is being made controversial by uploading baseless news on social media.
