Bakhtawar says PTI govt hiding Covid-19 cases through reduced testing

Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday said the PTI government was hiding the coronavirus cases in the country reducing the tests significantly.

In a tweet, Bakhtawar – the daughter of late Benazir Bhutto – said the government had not tested even 1 percent of the 220 million population despite the passage of six months since the first case was detected in Pakistan. “This is not just incompetence, this is intentional,” she added.

She made these comments over the reports that the coronavirus testing was reduced for 18th consecutive day since reaching the highest number on June 19 when over 31,000 tests were administered. And these figures are official which means no one other than those in the government could be blamed for this.

That’s why many people are critical of the PTI government claim that the coronavirus spread is being contained with less number of new cases being reported across the country.

Since June 19, the figures released by National Command and Operation Centre show a constant decline in the number of new cases as well as deaths. But the critics say it is only because of reduced testing.

In an earlier tweet, Bakhtawar had advised against arguing with the PTI over JIT reports as, she remarked, “we already know they cannot read”.

She a gave list of actual issues that should be discussed and raised, which included a decrease in coronavirus testing, hospitals reaching their full capacity, increase in medicines’ prices, millions fallen below poverty line because PTIMF [the PTI-IMF duo], reduced GDP growth, PIA as well as wheat, sugar and petrol mafias.
