The Senate Standing Committee on Power Thursday reviewed government measures to overcome energy crisis, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported.
Secretary Ali Raza told the Senate body that private investors are being convinced to use Thar coal and the government is mulling over conducting a study for the purpose.
A senator said KP has been experience up to 18-hours loadshedding and the secretary told the meeting that more than 13kMW will be added in years to come.
The body was told about figures showing the ongoing supply and demand and the steps to overcome shortfall in future. The MD of NTDC said yesterday more than 24k MW were distributed but today the demand of electricity supply stood 26kMW.
Senator Fida Muhammad sought the details of the K-Electric privatisation deal so that the the senators could know the facts about it. However, the persons concerned did not provide the details, drawing the body's ire. The chairman said the power division is not cooperating on the matter. He urged the persons concerned not to enforce the law of the jungle Saifullah Abro said they will seek details of all IPPs and K-electric deals and issued directive to present data of board of directors of all the department concerned.
Reportedly, the Senate committee approved last month the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power (Amendment) Bill 2021 in a meeting with Saifullah Abro in the chair. It is stated that the bill, known as Nepra Act, was aimed at empowering the government to impose surcharges on the power consumers that would amount to 10 per cent of electricity cost or around Rs1.4 per unit.
