Barbs were traded during the Senate standing committee meeting which put on its agenda the case of default allegedly committed by PTI leader Shahbaz Gill’s wife, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The meeting descended into chaos when the Senate Standing Committee on Science and Technology presided over by Senator Afnan Ullah on Wednesday put the matter of default allegedly committed by Shehbaz Gull’s wife on its agenda item.
Nerves were frayed during the meeting and the committee members including Acting Chairman Afnan Ullah, senators Shibli Faraz, Fouzia Arshad and Humayun Mehmand exchanged harsh comments. The atmosphere of the meeting became so much inimical that the sergeant-at-arms were called inside the committee room to avert any physical clash.
The slanging-match started when Committee Chairman Afnan alleged that Shahbaz Gill’s wife defaulted on the payment of some university. Senator Shibli Faraz accused the chairman of furthering the political agenda of the PTI’s rivals.
Senator Afnan went into rage and questioned the morals of Mr Faraz accusing him that he became senator after giving money. Senator Faraz, too, became indignant and retorted that Mr Afnan himself purchased the seat after offering money.
The piqued committee chairman advised Mr Faraz that Imran Khan would not come to save him on the Day of Judgement.
On this, Senator Humayun chipped in saying that Mr Afnan, too, would not be saved by Nawaz Sharif on the Day of Reckoning.
Senator Shibli Faraz while demanding an apology from the committee chairman protested along with senators Fouzia Arshad and Dr Hamayun.
The PTI senators were of the view that if the committee wanted to hear default cases, it should also hear default cases of senators belonging to other parties.
Dr Humayun said that the committee could not hear the case of a person if that person was not present in the committee. He was of the view that the committee should not discuss the personal affairs of any parliamentarian.
