Federal Education Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain Tuesday stopped Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Ahmed Mukhtar from issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to the new universities, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
In a letter to the HEC chairman, the federal education minister suggested measures to increase and improve the quality of education instead of making new universities.
“Immediately abolish the universities established without NOC and release their details in print, electronic and social media,” he directed.
“70 per cent of Pakistan’s population is youth, they can play an important role in the country’s economy through quality education and skills,” he pointed out.
“Increasing the number of universities without increasing the quality standard is a futile effort. New NOCs should not be issued at all,” he added.
