I was ready but NAB didn’t detain me, says Capt Safdar

October 8, 2020 05:20 PM

After appearing before the NAB investigators in Peshawar, PML-N leader Capt Safdar on Thursday said although he had come for his arrest, he wasn’t arrested and instead a questionnaire was handed over to him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

He was directed to appear in person in connection with an inquiry launched into assets beyond means and giving contracts to favourites for different projects carried out in Hazara Division.

In this connection, a large police contingent was deployed outside the NAB office located in the Hayatabad area.

Talking to media persons, Safdar remarked that he could be arrested after 10 days and added that he was told that the NAB chairman had issued arrest warrant for him.

“My detention would be the last one. Imran Khan too would be on the streets after that. Imran Khan will also chant the slogan of respect the vote,” he quipped.

The PML-N supremo will return immediately after completion of the medical treatment, Safdar told journalists and remarked that “a captain fights in the field, not general.”

Earlier in day, Capt Safdar had predicted that the NAB would arrest him and said he had brought his personal stuff with him in vehicle. “The NAB has only one formula for arrest,” he said.

“I will talk to media again after returning outside if I am not arrested,” he added.

Safdar, who was talking to reporters before appearing the NAB investigators, said the NAB chairman had carried out an assassination attempt on him and remarked that the anti-graft body could not summon him without registering a case against him.

“The NAB cannot summon me until the NAB chairman and I are not detained at Chung Police Station by police. But I am following the [party] discipline.”

He was referring to the clash between the PML-N workers and the police outside the NAB Lahore office when Maryam Nawaz was summoned by the investigators in connection with an ongoing inquiry. The office is located in Chung Police Station’s precincts.

The PML-N had claimed that it was a planned attempt on the life of Maryam and tried in vain to get a case registered against Prime Minister Imran Khan, NAB Chairman Javed Iqbal and others.

However, dozens of PML-N leaders and workers are facing cases under terrorism charges after the episode.

Referring to the victory of Sadiq Sanjrani and defeat of joint opposition candidate late Hasil Bizenjo, Safdar said votes were obtained by someone else in the Senate chairman election.

“We are living the life of a slave for the last 70 years,” the PML-N leader told media persons. “My leader has chanted the slogan of respect the vote,” he said and warned that the future life would also be of a slave if the vote wasn’t respected.
