Pakistan reported nine more deaths amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic during the past 24 hours (Wednesday), raising the toll in the country to 6,544, shows the latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre on Thursday morning.
The same period also saw another 583 people diagnosed with the deadly virus. It means the number of coronavirus cases reported in Pakistan has now increased to 316,934.
Meanwhile, the province-wise distribution of the officially reported coronavirus cases is given below as Sindh continues to be the most affected region of Pakistan:
Sindh 139,195, Punjab 100,272, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,175, Islamabad 17,009, Balochistan 15,460, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,886 and Azad Kashmir 2,937.
However, 302,375 people have fully recovered after contracting the virus – 1,087 of them during the past 24 hours – which means the number of closed cases [deaths + recoveries] in Pakistan is 308,919.
The latest addition of 1,087 of people recovering from the infection means the number of active cases in the country has now reduced to 8,015. Although most of these patients have mild symptoms and thus isolated at their houses, 744 of them are receiving treatment at different hospitals.
Moreover, 497 of these hospitalised patients are in the intensive care units with 76 of them placed on ventilators due to their very critical condition.
To detect, trace and isolate the infected persons, another 31,168 tests were administered in different parts of the country on Tuesday, increasing the overall number to 3,761,389.
New daily virus cases top 4,000 in Germany
New cases of coronavirus infections in Germany have soared past 4,000, official data showed Thursday, reaching a daily level not seen since April 11 when the country was still in lockdown.
The alarming jump in numbers came with autumn school holidays about to begin, prompting calls from Chancellor Angela Merkel's government for citizens to avoid travel abroad during the usually busy period for tourism.
