Two-day physical remand granted after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) produced PTI leader Hamid Zaman in the court of judicial magistrate in the party’s ‘prohibited’ funding case on Saturday and sought 14-day physical remand of the suspect, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Khawaja Haris, Zaman’s lawyer, on the other hand, opposed the FIA’s request.
Speaking on the occasion, FIA’s lawyer said that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), in its inquiry in the case, had traced some PTI’s bank accounts which were being operated from the USA, and in which Rs60 million had been deposited.
He went on to say that whatever amount was deposited in these accounts was used for political purposes.
In his reply, PTI leader’s counsel said that the FIA had not issued summons to his client.
And when the magistrate asked him whether his client had answered the Agency’s questions, Khawaja Haris replied that all answers were submitted to the FIA team in writing.
Zaman’s lawyer argued that the FIA did not have the power to conduct inquiry in the prohibited funding case.
He further said that the allegations levelled against the PTI leader were baseless.
