The central leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed frustration over the poor performance of its Lahore chapter during the Minar-e-Pakistan protest on Oct 6.
According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, PTI’s top leadership has decided to replace the local Lahore office bearers following their failure to mobilise supporters for the rally.
The sources said the central leadership has decided to replace Lahore President Sheikh Imtiaz and General Secretary Owais Younas. The town presidents of PTI Lahore are also expected to be replaced.
The party sources revealed that both the PTI Lahore President and General Secretary were unable to engage workers, and the local leadership remained absent from the key protest at Minar-e-Pakistan.
In addition, the Lahore leadership failed to provide an effective protest strategy, with no corner meetings taking place even after their protest call.
The inability to mobilise the public and bring elected MNAs and MPAs to the protest was also highlighted as a major shortcoming.
Dissatisfaction among PTI ticket holders in Lahore has grown, with many losing confidence in the current leadership.
An official notification regarding the changes in PTI’s Lahore organisation is expected to be issued soon.
