A big development has occurred during the hearing of an application filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking removal of the civil judge Asim Hafeez whose wife has been nominated as main accused in the Rizwana torture case, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

IHC Chief Justice, Justice Aamer Farooq on Thursday heard the application submitted by a citizen. However, during the hearing, the court changed the status of the application as a writ petition.

The court issued notices to the Federation and Interior Ministry through Ministry of Human Rights and sought a reply.

It also sent notice to the Islamabad chief commissioner.

The court appointed amici curiae (friends of court) in the Rizwana torture case. They included: Faisal Siddiqui, Zainab Janjua and Maryam Salman.

The court said that a serious concern was shown in the application over the treatment meted out to the children working in people’s houses, while calling upon the authorities to adopt a serious approach to stop the practice of hiring children as domestic help.

The chief justice adjourned the hearing of the case till the third week of September.

The written order was issued by Chief Justice Farooq.
