Barrister Salman Akram Raja is likely to be appointed as new secretary general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in place of Omar Ayub, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.
Party sources further said that Shibli Faraz and Arif Alvi named Salman Akram Raja as Omar Ayub’s resignation was accepted.
Shibli Faraz and Arif Alvi had blamed Omar Ayub for fissures in the party ranks, the sources said, adding Barrister Gohar Ali Khan supported the removal of Omar Ayub and bringing in Salman Akram Raja.
Party sources said that Omar Ayub will play his role in the assembly as the opposition leader.
Meanwhile, Omar Ayub thanked PTI founder chairman for accepting his resignation. He said “I first forwarded my resignation on June 22 but it was not accepted.”
Omar Ayub said it was quite cumbersome to be an opposition leader, handle court cases and look after constitutional matter at the same time. “It was quite a workload,” he added.
He said he will continue to work a PTI activist and with founder chairman.
