Shaikh Zayed Hospital Lahore has allegedly suspended medical services under the government’s Sehat Card program, leaving thousands of hapless patients in distress, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Saturday.

According to sources, there were several complaints that hospital administration refused to provide free medications to Sehat Card holders.

The constant refusal has prompted State Life Insurance to close its office within the hospital premises.

According to State Life Insurance, which manages the Sehat Card program, patients were being forced to purchase medicines from outside pharmacies, a violation of the program’s promise of free healthcare.

The insurance company stated that despite patients being eligible for free treatment, Shaikh Zayed Hospital was not providing the required medicines or surgical equipment, compelling individuals to bear the cost themselves.

"Patients had to buy their medicines from the market," confirmed a spokesperson from State Life Insurance.

The company further explained that patients undergoing surgeries under the Sehat Card were even required to purchase essential surgical supplies themselves.

State Life Insurance disclosed that it has formally informed the Shaikh Zayed Hospital administration of its decision to cease operations related to the Sehat Card due to these ongoing issues.
