In view of recent incidents of terrorism in the country, the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab has identified 25,432 suspected terrorists in the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Tuesday.
Sources told 24News TV channel that in this connection a report had also been compiled in which details of affiliations of these individuals with different banned organizations as well as other particulars had been given.
They further said that the CTD had also started conducting surveillance of these persons.
Quoting the report, sources elaborated that out of 25,432 such persons, 8, 926 were those who were affiliated with the same organization. “There are 968 such persons in Punjab who are inspired by the ideology of ‘Daesh’, a militant outfit designated as a terrorist organization by several countries of the world,” reads the report.
It merits mention here that a marked increase has been noticed in the incidents of terrorism in the country in recent months, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan, where several personnel of the law-enforcement agencies (LEAs) and the Pakistan Army have lost their lives.
