Senior US official Eric Meyer meets with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi

Interior Minister Syed Mohsin Naqvi on Wednesday said there existed lots of opportunities for American companies to invest in Pakistan’s mineral sector and the purpose of holding the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, 2025 was to familiarize investors from around the world with this sector, reported 24NewsHD TV channel. 

Speaking to a senior US State Department official, Eric Meyer, who is leading a delegation at the Forum, the minister expressed the hope that the US delegation’s visit would prove to be a milestone in further strengthening Pakistan-US economic ties.

He added that the Counter-Terrorism Dialogue, which was due to take place in Islamabad in June, would prove useful for further increasing collaboration between the two countries for dealing with terrorism. 

Naqvi informed the visitors of the steps taken by the government to combat terrorism. “The war against terror is not Pakistan’s job alone. The whole world will have to assist the country in dealing with the menace.”

He went on to say that just like the US was confronted with the issue of illegal immigrants, Pakistan was also faced with the same situation. 

Eric, on the occasion, while condemning the hijacking of Jaffar Express by the terrorists belonging to the BLA, offered his condolences to the bereaved families.  

He also thanked the government of Pakistan for assisting the US in the arrest of Sharifullah, a militant. 

Matters of mutual interest, including relations between the two countries and bilateral cooperation, came under discussion at the meeting. 

Increasing cooperation between Pakistan and the USA for tackling terrorism and smuggling was also discussed at the meeting. 

Acting US Ambassador to Pakistan Natalie A. Baker, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry and Secretary Interior Khurram Agha were also present on the occasion.
