The executive committee of the Association of Electronic Media Editors and News Directors (AMND) met with President Azhar Abbas in the chair, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Thursday.
The officials from Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Islamabad attended the meeting that mulled over the measure to cope with the challenges confronting the media.
The association demanded the federal government fulfil its promise to withdraw the laws drafted to muzzle the media and stressed the need for taking all the stakeholders on board before making laws related to the media.
The meeting raised concerns about the registration of treason cases against journalists. The participants reiterated their resolve to continue with efforts to guard media rights and freedom of expression.
The committee decided to take up the TV channel issues with Pemra and stressed the need for training of producers and reporters to ensure for effective implementation of the journalistic code of conduct in the meeting and freedom of the press.
The meeting praised Sindh authorities for enforcing the Journalist Protection Bill and the participants urged other provinces to follow. It demanded an increase in the salaries of media workers. The committee okayed the names of eight new members.
