While hearing the intra-court appeals regarding the local bodies’ elections in the federal capital, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Monday sought a summary and the minutes of the federal cabinet meeting about increase in the number of Union Councils (UCs), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz heard the appeals.
The DG Law election commission and the additional attorney general of Pakistan also appeared before the court.
“Islamabad is not just a city. It is a symbol of the federation for being the capital,” IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq remarked.
“Why is the chief commissioner given the additional charge of the chairman of the Capital Development Authority (CDA)? Is there a shortage of people?” he questioned.
“The solution to the problems of Islamabad is not the priority of any government,” he added.
“The solution to the problem is that Islamabad should have its own small parliament,” he pointed out.
“Building the roads and streets is the job of local governments, not the parliamentarians,” he added.
“There is no other opinion that this work belongs to the local governments, and they have to do it,” he asserted.
“Also consider whether it be able to work effectively whenever the local government comes,” he remarked.
