The PTI government has offered the Senate deputy chairman seat to its staunch opponent Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI), reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The offer was made during a meeting between JUI Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri and PTI’s candidate for Senate chairman Sadiq Sanjrani and Defence Minister Pervez Khattak in Islamabad on Tuesday.
Talking to newsmen after the meeting, Pervez Khattak said the PTI has offered the Senate deputy chairman slot to the JUI. “We have asked Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri to become out Senate deputy chairman,” he added.
When asked whether he was nominated for the Senate deputy chairmanship, Maulana Haideri said “I have not been formally informed by the PDM in this regard.”
He said Sadiq Sanjrani is the current Senate chairman and they often meet him. “I cannot say at the moment who will be the Senate chairman on March 12,” he added.
Earlier, a meeting of the Opposition alliance PDM’s special committee was held in Islamabad in which the name for the Senate deputy chairmanship was finalized.
The committee decided that the candidate will be from the JUI and Maulana Fazlur Rahman will make the final announcement soon.
