Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the UN General Assembly’s adoption of Pakistan-sponsored resolution on climate-induced disasters is a big achievement as America, China and Russia have come on the same page on this particular issue while expressing his gratitude over their support, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
On Friday, the 193-member Assembly adopted the Pakistan-sponsored resolution by consensus. The text was co-sponsored by a large number of countries – 159 – from all regions of the world.
Bilawal said that at this point in time when the geo-political division had become so vivid, we are grateful to America, China and Russia for their participation in a group of countries that presented the resolution.
He also expressed his gratitude to the UN Secretary-General, UN President and officials of Pakistan mission at the United Nations for their support for the resolution.
According to the resolution, “Countries, like Pakistan, which confront such climate-induced disasters should not be left to fend for themselves, dependent on the generosity and charity of friends … we must construct mechanisms that can enable climate-struck countries to access resources to mitigate the impacts of the ever more frequent and more intense climate disasters and to recover quickly from such disasters
