The competitions in the three-day Sarfaranga Cold Desert jeep rally kicked off in the Shigar district of Gilgit Baltistan, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
The world’s highest cold desert Sarfaranga hosts a jeep rally of which, the fifth edition is underway.
The rally was kicked off by Chief Guest Major General Kashif Khalil’s speech at the Opening Ceremony. Addressing to the audience, he said that the successful start of the event is a testament to the peaceful environment in Gilgit-Baltistan.
Around 100 Racers and bikers, including women, from across the country have participated in races of 10 different categories.
Fans from all over Pakistan came to witness the races.
The track in this year’s edition is 80 km long and reported to be a difficult one as many jeeps broke down in between.
Many activities to entertain the audience including cultural shows, polo matches, rafting, boating and local music shows have been arranged.
