Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has again written a letter to Chief Election Commissioner and demanded early decision about the allocation of reserved seats case in the wake of Election Act 2024, reported 24NwsHD TV channel.
In a letter NA Speaker contended that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should issue an order on reserved seats case as per the Election Act 2024. Speaker reminded the ECP that it has not acted on his earlier letter which was sent three weeks back. NA Speaker reminded of ECP chief that it would be a violation of the constitution if ECP does not follows an act of the parliament. He urged ECP to follow the constitution without further delay.
Meanwhile, Speaker Punjab Assembly Malik Ahmed Khan has sent a second letter to ECP and demanded start of further process regarding reserved seats after further the Election Act 2024.
Speaker Punjab Assembly emphasized on immediate action regarding reserved seats. Malik Ahmad Khan requested the Election Commission for the immediate implementation of the Elections Amendment Act 2024 as parliamentary supremacy is the basic principle of democracy. He said delay in the implementation of the Elections Act 2024 is against the will of the people. Malik Ahmad Khan demanded that Election Commission must respect the legislation of the Parliament as immediate implementation of the Elections Act is necessary for the integrity of the democratic system.
Meanwhile, ECP is likely to hold an important meeting of the Election Commission to review decision about reserved seats. The meeting of the Election Commission will be held in few days. NA and Punjab Assembly Speakers letter to the Election Commission will also be considered.
