Weekly inflation rate rises to 26.32%, fuel and food prices soar

The data from the Bureau of Statistics showed the weekly inflation rate in the country increased by 0.96% in the current week, reaching 26.32% and the main drivers of inflation were the rising prices of petroleum products and food items.
According to the 24News HD TV channel, the data showed that petrol became expensive by Rs 14.92 per litre, high-speed diesel by Rs 18.50 per litre, and LPG cylinders by Rs 153.6 in the last week.
The food items that witnessed the highest increase in prices were sugar, tomatoes, dal masoor, garlic, and dal moong.
Sugar became expensive by Rs11.48 per kg, reaching a maximum price of Rs 200 per kg in Peshawar and Quetta. The price of sugar was Rs195 per kg in Karachi and Rawalpindi, Rs 190 per kg in Khuzdar and Islamabad, and Rs 180 per kg in other major cities of the country.
Tomatoes became expensive by Rs15.53 per kg, dal masoor by Rs35.14 per kg, garlic by Rs19.74 per kg, and dal moong by Rs9.73 per kg in this week.
The rising inflation rate has added to the woes of the common people.
