Punjab has launched its first satellite-connected environmental monitoring system utilising modern technology and drones to curb violations of environmental laws.

According to the 24NewsHD TV channel, the Ministry of Environment, in collaboration with the district administration, has started a crackdown on smoke-emitting factories, leading to the closure of two factories using drone technology.

The targeted factories, located on Sheikhupura Road in Gujranwala, were identified for violating environmental laws by emitting excessive smoke.

The Environment Department, alongside the district administration, conducted raids and sealed the factories by shutting down their furnaces.

Senior Punjab Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb congratulated the Department of Environment and the district administration for their swift action.

She stated that, under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the proactive anti-smog campaign will be intensified ahead of the smog season.

Marriyum Aurangzeb emphasised the importance of eliminating the causes of smog, which claims the lives of 250,000 people annually.

She urged every citizen of Punjab to contribute to efforts aimed at eradicating smog, highlighting the devastating impact it has on public health.
