PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif has demanded the formation of a parliamentary monitoring committee to ensure proper utilization of the financial resources and to double-check the official figures on the coronavirus.

In a letter sent to the National Assembly Speaker on Wednesday, the opposition leader urged Asad Qaiser “to ensure the resources, in particular the financial resources, are utilized properly.”

In what appeared to be a rare moment of praising the government, the PML-N leader said “It is welcoming that the government called a parliamentary committee meeting over the coronavirus.”

He also called for the meetings of Senate and NA standing committees on health.

“You should form a Parliamentary Monitoring Committee to oversee the use of financial resource are being used properly,” the opposition leader urged the speaker.

In addition, he said in his letter that “It’s a pity that the desired results could not be achieved due to PM’s behavior,” and added that there are certain discrepancies in the official stats provided by the government relating to the coronavirus.

“Therefore, I also put before you a suggestion to hold regular meeting of the standing committees in order to gauge and counter-check the official figures,” Shehbaz said, and demanded the government present actual stats on this proposed forum.
