Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Friday officially inaugurated the construction of the Dadhocha Dam in the Rawalpindi region, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel.

A special inauguration ceremony was held at the site, about 25 km away from Rawalpindi while Syed Mohsin Naqvi laid foundation stone of the project as a chief guest. Later, he inspected the ongoing progress of the dam in detail.

According to sources, the project estimated at Rs 12 billion marked a significant step towards fulfilling Rawalpindi's increasing demand for water after its completion.

The dam, boasting a grass/live storage capacity of 60,000/45,000 Acre-foot (AFT), is strategically located 25 km from Rawalpindi.

Acquiring a vast expanse of 16,194 kanals and 14 marlas of land in Rawalpindi and Kalar Saidan, the dam stands tall at 123 feet with a length of 737 feet and a catchment area of 129 square miles.

The sources further said that currently, construction progress stands at 26% financially and 12% physically, with work proceeding swiftly on-site. “The "Right of Way" has almost been cleared at Dadhocha Dam.”

Aligning with the Supreme Court's decision, the local landowners have been compensated based on prevailing market rates.

It is reported that the completion deadline for Dadhocha Dam is set for November 2025.

Once finished, the dam is poised to provide Rawalpindi with a daily supply of 35 million gallons of clean water, addressing the water needs of the city and its environs.
